Rapid prototyping: what is additive manufacturing by 3D printing?
3D printingis an additive manufacturing process, that is to say by adding material. 3D printinghas been developed among other things forrapid prototyping thanks to digital control and CAD (Computer Aided Design). The process is the same as 2D printing, except that the different thicknesses of material create the volume of the part.

To be able to use this process for rapid prototyping, it is necessary to go through a 3D file. All parts of the same production are installed virtually on a platform. The file is generally cut into 0.10 mm thick slices. This set of elements is transmitted to the machine which produces the desired prototypeslayer by layer.
It is this process which is used for the realization of 3D prototypes / 3D models within our company, in particular with the Stereolithographyor again the Selective Laser Sintering. After the printing, the prototypes or models can have several finishes.

3D printing and rapid prototyping technologies
3D printing is associated with a 3D printer which can be more or less technologically developed (classic, tripod, multi-material …), but which is very different from the machines we have. In addition, the uses of these objects made by 3D printer are very different, and their technologies are very different. 3D printing is the big family of additive manufacturing and is commonly confused with wire deposition technology, while in fact 3D printing also includes Stereolithography and Selective Laser Sintering.
The 3D printer produces the prototypes stratum by stratum, by depositing wire on a plate.
The Stereolithographyneeds to produce the prototype in a resin tray to achieve these strata, and selective laser sintering needs meanwhile a polyamide powder bin for particles polymerize them.
Our technologies are often assimilated to 3D printing, because this type of production is the best known of all, and the term makes sense: “we print your ideas in volume”.
3D printing is a process that is used with all types of materials and is not exclusive to rapid prototyping or plastic. There is 3D printing with wax, metals and alloys, glass, wool, food, polyamide powder, ceramic, concrete, alumina, etc.
3D printing is a new production method for all types of objects.
Our company Axis is specialized in the realization of prototypes and 3D models thanks to rapid prototyping.
We use adapted and specific technologies (Stereolithography, Selective Laser Sintering, Vacuum casting, fused deposition modeling , Paint finish, Metalization, Assembly, Transfer transfer) for rendering as close as possible to your needs, both aesthetically and dimensionally than technical.
